When we moved from New Jersey to our newly built home in Fearrington Village last year, we did not bring much of our traditional living room and dining room furniture because we were seeking a more casual, contemporary look. The open floor plan required something different. We were overwhelmed by the thought of choosing colors, fabrics, furniture, and accent pieces that would work well with the art work, a rug, and lamps we had brought from our other home. We called Design Lines to connect with a professional who could create a floor plan, listen to our input, and come up with an overall vision for the space. We filled out a questionnaire about our lifestyle and preferences, met with Brittany Ruch in our home, and began an exciting journey to create our new living spaces.
Brittany selected some beautiful fabrics and listened carefully to our comments about wanting contemporary, yet comfortable furniture. She took us to a showroom in High Point where we could sit on various sofas and chairs and look at our fabric swatches on the furniture itself. She approached all of the challenges with energy, humor, and a warm smile. When we were concerned about a few price points, Brittany had alternatives for us to consider. She came up with a great idea to incorporate patterned fabric from accent pillows along the skirts of our two lounge chairs; suggested two small stools covered in leather to use for extra seating; and found a sisal rug to enhance the look of the room. She drew several proposals for custom cabinets and referred us to a cabinet maker who did a wonderful job of working from our sketches, wood stain, and preferred hardware.
From the furniture selection, to finding screen shades for our bedroom, to selecting paint colors for four rooms, and grouping art work in a pleasing way, Brittany was meticulous and kept us involved in the process. We are so pleased with how well the colors, textures, and fabrics work together. We have received countless compliments on our home’s interior from new Fearrington neighbors and old friends from up north. We truly feel at home here and are happy to have such a welcoming space to share with friends and family. Our collaboration with Design Lines was a resounding success!
“They were very insightful regarding the design. They were instrumental in achieving the design intentions and enhanced the project with thier selections and design input. I am very impressed with their ability and talent and hope to work with them in the future.”

“My name is Kenan Poole, real estate developer of high-end townhomes in Wake County. I was first introduced to Design Lines on my project in Cary. Judy Pickett was hired to redecorate our Sales Model and then later to provide the finishes for the other Phase I homes. I was most impressed with Judy’s organization, as well her use of colors and flair in a more traditional style setting.
When it was time to build Phase II of my townhome project, Design Lines was chosen for many reasons. It was truly a team approach from which their staff was able to capture the feel of the development and make the interiors of all the homes, different and unique. All aspects of design from space planning and flow to the selections of hardware, paint, carpets, lighting, plumbing and cabinets were well thought out and executed. Most importantly Design Lines’s ability to work with individual clients and their budgets and to decorate their homes to traditional, eclectic or contemporary styles is a real testament to the company and to the design team.
My wife and I have just hired them for our personal home and we have been very pleased. I would recommend Design Lines for any residential design need. I look forward to working with them on future projects.”
“I met Judy late in 1995 when I moved here from London –that’s fourteen years ago already, where does time go! I was a newlywed leaving behind a career in the pharmaceutical industry to raise my family here in Raleigh. Our first project together was to remodel a 5000 sq. ft. house in a relatively short timeline. The number of choices facing me was daunting – paint, wallpaper, furniture, window treatments, electrical and plumbing fixtures, cabinets, countertops, tile and hardware. Judy pegged my style very quickly. She and her team presented me with unique options that suited my taste and fit my budget. They made selections, scheduled appointments, introduced me to subcontractors, managed timelines and even shopped for accessories and art – the time and energy I saved by working with this team of professionals and the results achieved were well worth the fee!
I have two boys now and have changed careers. I have worked with Judy and her team (I love them all) on numerous projects through the years ranging from building and selling my first spec house to renovating my beach house. The ladies at Design Lines have helped make all of these projects so much fun for me and they have left their marks on my home(s) and my heart!!”
“Co-hosted a luncheon today at home and received so many very genuine sounding compliments on the house. “How lovely. How warm. How comfortable and inviting.” Just want to thank you for your vision and tell you how much Al and I are enjoying living in our home, how much we enjoy entertaining in it, how grateful we are to you for all your suggestions and guidance. I think of you every time I look at the kitchen floor trapezoid between the great room and the sun room. That one touch made the whole project come together.”
“I always envied the design and décor of a friend’s “parade of homes” houses. When I decided to update an existing house, he referred me to Design Lines. After building one home, I knew my talents were not in this area. Ashley Thompson agreed to help me with some design changes and decorating of this house. Ashley is very approachable about all ideas and renders her professional advice to help make decisions. She works well with contractors. She works within the suggested budget and never intimidates the client regarding restrictions. She is patient and flexible with time lines. I truly give her the credit for all the compliments I receive on my house. Working with Design Lines is very easy. The office is filled with options for everything, and what they do not have, they will find it. I look forward to continue to work with Ashley and Design Lines to complete my home. There is always something to do or change.”
“For us, hiring a designer during the building process was as important as choosing the right builder.
She helped us wade through the mountains of decisions and helped transform our vision into a real home. She took the time to understand my design style and listened to my ideas, and was happy to offer an opinion and different perspective as well. Most importantly, her enthusiasm in our project was the personal touch I needed.”
“I must say that I don’t think I can say enough nice things about Design Lines. I had seen Judy Pickett’s work on Parade of Homes houses, and believed that I would never be able to afford to hire a decorator. Now that I have gone through the process of working with Design Lines, I feel that you can’t afford to go it alone.
Mistakes are costly, and if you make a decorating mistake, living with the consequences will be a daily irritation. My husband and I differ in our preferences of color scheme, so in the first meeting, Judy had to listen carefully to find a thread of logic in what we said we wanted. Once she helped us find our path, Ashley worked with us on the details required to fulfill the vision. A year later, we had another project that built on the first. You stepped right in with your creative eye, helping me incorporate treasured family pieces with the beautiful fabrics of the drapes and new chairs, and a stylish new end table.
On occasion, a piece of the puzzle wasn’t available. On every occasion, the replacement choice proved to be even better than the original item. I attribute this to the relentlessness with which the Design Lines team approaches your relationships with your clients. Until I was thrilled, you kept the door open to look at fresh ideas.”
“As we walk through our house we have come to realize how working with you has given us a beautifully designed and livable home. It is what we have hoped for and dreamed of. The process and the professionalism with which you worked with us to understand and implement our vision was exceptional.”
